We’re not ALL about great fashion at low prices, y’know. It’s not ALL about celebrating each of our creativity, individuality, and freedom of expression. We also very much enjoy being a part of our — and your — community. “Wait a minute,” you ask, this is a used clothing store. How much a ‘part of my community’ can you really be?” And to explain, let’s take a quick stroll down memory lane:
- In 1994, Buffalo Exchange launched the “Tokens for Bags” program, offering a token (worth a five cent donation to one of several local charities) to customers who opt away from using a plastic disposable bag. Then, in 2012m the company decided to go “bagless,” completely discontinuing the use of disposable plastic in all stores nationwide. Now every customer gets to make a five cent charitable donation with any purchase. At last count, the program as raised more than $500,000 for local charities across the country.
- In 1997, Buffalo Exchange launched the annual Dollar Day Sale, offering previously marked down items for just one buck, which is then donated to help conserve wildlife and the environment. The program has raised more than $420,000 for national charities, including the Humane Society, the Buffalo Field Campaign, Surfrider Foundation, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, and others.
- In 2006, Buffalo Exchange partnered with the Humane Society to launch the Coats for Cubs program, inviting donations of unwanted fur and fur items for use as bedding for orphaned and injured animals. To-date, Buffalo Exchange has collected more than 8,500 different fur products for rehabilitation organizations across the country to help nurture these animals back to health.
